For those of you were simply dying to send me email, we finally figured out what was wrong in the transfer of web hosts. Apparently our A records were fighting with our MX records and DNS chaos ensued. Laurie and Dave are back up and running. In particular, we are looking forward to more spam in arabic.
Unfortunately, due to a new database server being installed at our web hosts, we are in a queue waiting to have 2 new MySQL servers set up for the “IA on AI” and “Post-Play’em” blogs. As soon as those SQL servers are established, it won’t take long to get those blogs back online.
Also, now that I actually can feel comfortable with the authoring software (WordPress instead of Blogger), I plan on doing a lot more on those two blogs. Hopefully IA on AI will see a little somethin’-somethin’ every few days.
Well, after beating my head against the wall, I’ve finally left my old web host and put this site on GoDaddy. I have to admit, I had no idea that really nifty integrated tools were out there. My earlier host was so bad that their support site wasn’t even debugged properly. The only thing that hasn’t worked out was switching my email over. The MX records can’t seem to make up their minds as to where they are pointing. Hopefully that will sort itself out by tomorrow. In the mean time, I’m not receiving any email. Please be patient.
Anyway, I have also begun the process of moving my 3 blogs on this site from Blogger to WordPress. Most of my time was spent on integrating WordPress into the site so that it looks seamless. I have finished the IA News blog and will due the other two fairly quickly now. Thankfully, the import tool from Blogger to WordPress works quite well.
Well, after the migration to the “New Blogger”, I discovered that they won’t support my php includes so that the blog can fit into the rest of my site. Therefore, I am going to ditch Blogger entirely.
After having worked as an author for a couple of other blogs that used WordPress, I figure that it was a decent solution. Therefore, I am going to begin installing WordPress and see if I can get all my existing content over to it. Things may look ugly for a bit but hopefully I can get it taken care of.
Oh… and a big thank you to Google/Blogger for screwing up dozens (if not scores) of hours of my work. Good work, folks.
Because Blogger is doing away with their FTP publishing as of May 1st, I have to convert this blog over to a new type of system with them. Unfortunately, because I have their custom code embedded in my Intrinsic Algorithm pages, this is likely not going to go smoothly. Hopefully, there will be very little down-time. Please accept ourĀ apologiesĀ if something goes amiss.
While I have been rigidly avoiding getting sucked into the vortex that is Facebook, I figured it was time to get onto Twitter. You can follow me as “IADaveMark“. I promise not to bombard you with useless messages… for a while, anyway.
Well, I just got notified that our server move was completed (5 weeks later than it was supposed to be) and the DNS was cut over to the new address. It looks like everything is where it’s supposed to be. Let’s just hope that the server stays up and doing what it is supposed to do… serve!
Ok folks, I know this is getting old. I have been having horrible problems with my ISP since early April. I won’t name the ISP yet, but you can look it up for yourself, I suppose. I have been with this company for 6 years and things started fairly well. However, in recent years, especially since a buyout, things have been a little more dicey. Well, this latest issue has to do with a server move gone awry. If the issue persists, I won’t hesitate to name them… at about the same time as I go shopping for a new ISP – something I don’t want to have to waste time doing.
Because the site has been up and down for 5 weeks, I’ve been a little hesitant about posting. I have plenty of material I want to put on IA on AI and have been wanting to start putting some new observations on Post-Play’em. I have been assured that the ISP issue will be solved soon (although I was told that over a month ago). However, I think that I may just start writing some of this material anyway. Since I use Blogger, everything is stored on their site first anyway. It wouldn’t take me much to republish if I were to lose things.
Anyway, for those of you who have been checking the blogs and finding only errors, I apologize. I appreciate your loyalty nonetheless.
Ok… it was never really down down – but at least I can change things and know that the changes will stick. There’s a few blog posts I need to make and you can all feel free to use the forums once again.
Thanks for any patience that you may have had to exhibit!
We just got notified that our web host is upgrading some software on our server this weekend. One of the effects of this is that there will be a content freeze between Thursday, March 27th and Monday, March 31st. I will have to assume that this means that blog entries and comments and all message board posts that are made during that period will be lost on Monday. Therefore, I will not be posting anything during this coming weekend either here, IA on AI, or Post-Play’em. Also, please don’t frustrate yourself by making a comment or posting on the message board as I can’t guarantee that it will survive.
I hope this isn’t frustrating and that all goes well. I’m sure I will have something to say come early next week – so remember to subscribe to the RSS feeds (I’m sure that part still works!).
